Tyrone was born and grew up in Columbia, South Carolina. He was educated and graduated from The Citadel, a prestigious military college, with a degree in Political Science. He then embarked on a career with the U.S. Army and South Carolina Air National Guard. Yet, through subsequent addictions to cocaine and alcohol, Tyrone’s life fell apart and he lost nearly everything. In 2004, he found himself homeless in San Francisco.
Tyrone entered a Christian-based drug and alcohol program called City Team. After completing the City Team program, Tyrone worked as a security guard for 3 years but felt incomplete and unfulfilled.
Tyrone then entered World Impact’s Siafu leadership program in San Francisco in 2008. During his leadership training in TUMI, Tyrone learned to give God top position in his life above his career and even above family. He gained a newfound confidence, skills and purpose. He acquired the skills necessary to disciple other men and discovered his gifting and calling – which was in the area of teaching and counseling.
Tyrone graduated from World Impact’s Siafu leadership program in 2011. He now is employed full time on the staff of City Church – San Francisco, where he leads urban outreach and jail ministries. Tyrone is also pursuing a Master in Divinity through Western Theological Seminary. In his current position, Tyrone does extensive work helping men in recovery from drugs and alcohol and also mentors a number of men in county jail. Tyrone credits World Impact’s Siafu leadership training with providing him the skills, discipline and maturity required to become one of San Francisco’s top urban spiritual leaders.
